I teach Japanese cookery at the Sozai Cooking School in London and have orchestrated many gastronomic events.

My expertise stretches from the art of healthy Japanese home cooking to top quality gastronomic experiences. I trained at the Tsuji School of Culinary Arts in Osaka, Japan, where they taught me one of the most authentic Japanese culinary courses in the world.

My enthusiasm for gastronomy originated from my childhood in Sapporo, where I regularly enjoyed the spoils of wild vegetable foraging and fishing with my family. This led me to understand the importance of the freshest, highest quality ingredients together with exquisite taste pairings in Japanese food. I was hired as Tina Turner’s private chef when Ms Turner moved her base to London in the 1990s. I have also appeared on Channel 4's "Sunday Brunch" where I taught Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer to make sushi.

Besides being an accomplished cook and presenter, I am also a writer and photographer. I contribute to Japanese and British media with articles and recipes. I also recently started cooking at Megumi's supper club in Notting Hill Gate where the focus is on Japanese regional cuisine.

Akemi cooked us exquisite Japanese dinner. One of the guests could not each raw fish and she cooked him some alternative dish.
She made two trips between her home and my flat to perfect her cooking. Very professional.

Akemi was fantastic! never experienced this before but it was so easy and we were able to host our friends and create an amazing atmosphere without having to think about cooking or cleaning. The food was exquisite! I have never in my life tried sushi quite like this or miso soup so professionally put together. Everything Akemi made was fresh and handmade which heightened the flavours to extraordinary levels. At the beginning Akemi kept up with comms to make sure I had certain utensils but she brought so many items with her so there was no worries of what I had in my tiny kitchen. I would highly recommend Akemi for any sized home and for a true authentic Japanese cuisine. Thanks for a unforgettable evening.

Akemi cooked for a small party of eight guests. Her menu was original, flavoursome and exquisite at the same time; additionally, she was very discreet with our guests, handled our kitchen as if it was hers (leaving it in a pristine state upon leaving) and, at the same time, was not shy of offering information/explanation about what she had cooked for us. I cannot recommend her enough; thank you Akemi for an unforgettable experience!
